The Most Restrictive Tournament Ever
Updated: Nov 18, 2024
So, hello everyone. It's been a while since I have done one of these, but I am here doing a bit of a tournament breakdown. So here we go. It's a legendary format with omegas, epics, and rares, and I only mention epics and rares because of how small the pool of creatures is. So without further ado, here is what I think will be good and what won't.
OMEGAS
First up, Olorotitan. Use it. It's the best thing in the format. By a mile. All you need to do is hide behind dodge, and if your opponent doesn't have an Olorotitan of their own, congratulations, you basically win as long as you dodge. Yay?
Rativates is next up. You are basically the fastest thing in the format with a dodge and distracting instant rampage and an impact counter. Build to have max speed and try to hit as hard as possible, without going too frail on the hp.
If you have it, Spinosaurus Aegypticus is the only thing that can really put a damper on Olorotitan, and that's if it's got revenge ready and Olorotitan isn't hiding. You'll need to build to speed tie it and do as much damage as possible. And if you lose the tie, well then good luck.
Yutyrannus is the last of the omegas you should consider really to see (as most Saurophagonax aren't past level 10). You really need to focus on offense with Yutyrannus, making sure you hit the 200% critical damage and 100% critical chance for consistency and dumping the rest into attack.
LEGENDARIES
Now for the legendaries. First on the list is the Doe. Why? Well, maternal roar basically deletes anything without armor, and if your opponent hangs on, you have Instant Precise Piercing Impact to finish the job. This of course is all paired with an insane attack stat and good speed. The only issue is a vulnerability weakness, which is manageable.
The Buck is up next, and this is due to its high bulk and solid output, with Immobilize to trap and keep things on the field. And with devour, removing it can be a real pain.
Angel is another legendary you'll want to run. With Leading Charge into Alert Stunning Rampage, Angel can dish out massive damage at high speeds. You also deter swaps with Ferocious Shield On Escape and can also break through shields with Dispersed Fierce Impact.
Rebel is next up, and with his high speed and trapping abilities, Rebel can and will be a useful asset to have, especially with a lot of fierce running around. Not to mention, it is one of the few ways to beat the Doe in a pure legendary setting. And with how little the pool is, Rebel is going to be quite the asset this time around.
Grylenken is a legendary you may need to consider. With its higher speed, it'll get some big damage off, and it just outpaces Rebel and Angel (if they aren't sped up). However, it will run into some issues with Rativates. But unlike Rativates, Grylenken can break through dodge, and with its high crit multiplier and base damage paired with counter and instant buff, it might be one of the few ways to break through.
Now Monostegotops is the next legendary, and while it isn't as amazing as the Spinoceratops duo or the Tyrannosaur pair, it still has a lot to offer. You have the Nullifying counter, Dig in on Escape, and the swap in. And if you need swap in damage, this is your best (and really only) option.
Skorpiodactylus is one of the newest legendaries, and it might have a shot. It has good bulk and speed for when it swaps in, but with so much being able to resist the bleed or with so many creatures having an on escape, it will struggle, especially since it didn't inherit no escape from Dimodactylus.
Ankyntrosaurus is the last legendary we will discuss (this pool is VERY small). It does unfortunately lack damage. With a bit of attack, it can one shot the Doe after a counter+rampage. But it also has a high armor stat and a decent hp stat, which means it decently can match up into Rativates. However, Ankyntrosaurus is really more of a niche pick if anything.
EPICS
Next up on the list is our first of three epics. Panthera does Panthera things. revenge kill and trap. If you're ahead, Panthera is great. If you're behind, it isn't. There is a few things though that will hold Panthera back this time around, and that is that almost everything good can either run away, or outspeed it and hit it with priority, or do both. Angel and Rebel have priority and are faster with pin immunity, the Doe, Yutyrannus, and Grylenken can all run on it, and the Buck is just really fat. And if Olorotitan is hiding, good luck. And if Rativates doesn't have jab and weave up, you can send in Panthera. But if it does, you're trapped with it and are dead.
Dimodactylus is next up, and while its new resistances will help, it'll not have the most amazing time since everything here can resist the bleed and has a better time breaking through. However, trapping some foes may be quite valuable.
Finally, the last epic is Pulmonoscorpios. With Enfeebling Impact, it does have a chance to render Olorotitan defenseless (if it doesn't get killed by the rampage first). However, there will be many challenges it faces from basically everything in the format, so it may not be an amazing option.
RARES
Now, there is one final creature that I feel could have a decent shot. Nodosaurus may be a rare, but it has the potential to take on some big threats. If you swap into a Rativates when it uses Jab and Weave, it can take it down (as long as Rativates doesn't get a bunch of crits). Nodosaurus also can just wall out Grylenken and Rebel, with the latter appearing on every team (I presume). And against Spinosaurus Aegypticus, you can play around the Double strike and Lacerate. I don't think it'll be a star performer, but I feel Nodosaurus has a chance.
CONCLUSION & GOOD LUCK!
So, these are the creatures that I feel will do well this weekend. You also have Titanoboa and Wuerhosaurus, which could maybe find a small role, but I doubt it. Also, you have Lambeosaurus. I have no idea if it will do well because we really have never seen it perform in any sort of event. So, there may be a world where it does well. That's really it. I wish they came up with a better pool of creatures, but it is nice to see some creatures potentially gain a role in a format. I hope some formats like this come along, but with a better-designed pool. Give some of the lesser omegas like Masiakasaurus and Borealopelta a chance to shine. Good Luck.
Let's hope that they don't do this for apex tournaments because it'll just be the meta ones and then they'll throw in a few solid uniques.
Thank you
Genial
Good Info!
