💪 SURVIVING THE GRIND OF JWA
Hey everyone! We’re kicking off a few new series here on the blog over the next few weeks, diving into some of the lessons we’ve learned over the many years of playing Jurassic World Alive. Whether you're building your first competitive team or trying to climb out of Lockdown or Aviary, strategy is everything.
It’s not just about learning how to boost your creatures or using the biggest names in the meta—it all starts with understanding how to adapt, plan ahead, and take full advantage of the weekly events and opportunities Ludia throws our way.
In this series, we’ll cover:
How to build smarter teams
How to make the most of daily gameplay
What to prioritize during events
Tips to prepare for the future
Whether you're a casual player looking to improve or someone aiming for endgame, we've got something coming your way.
🦕 TEAM BUILDING IN THE CURRENT META
Proper team building is one of the most crucial ways to win consistently in Jurassic World Alive. Over the years, the process of building a team has changed quite a bit. In the early days, hunting was the primary method of grinding DNA, while spending money was simply a way to speed that up.
As the game evolved, so did the methods of team building. New features like Alliance Missions, Sanctuaries, and Events began to reshape how players obtained DNA. While these additions helped, the grind still remained a major challenge-especially for mid-level players trying to stay competitive. Spending also became too involved in determining teams.
Then came Update 3.12, and with it, everything started to shift. It became significantly easier to change your focus, plan ahead, and create a successful team without needing to spend excessively. Hunting, in particular, has improved dramatically-honestly, it’s the best it’s ever been in terms of creature variety and availability.
Still, even with these improvements, hunting alone isn’t enough to build a full meta team. But the recent migration has opened up new opportunities. With some strategic planning and targeted grinding, players now have a much clearer path to building the creatures they want.
Sure, a few top-tier Apex and Unique creatures may still feel out of reach-but there are plenty of strong options available for those who know where to focus their efforts.
⛔ DON'T FORCE IT
I can't count the number of players I've spoken to who acquire DNA for a new creature and immediately want to throw it on their team. And sure, sometimes, that is the right move. However, more often than not, it’s better to wait until that creature can make an immediate impact.
Taking a pause before making major investments is good for a few key reasons:
It gives you time to assess the creature and make sure it actually has staying power in the current meta.
You conserve resources-boosts, coins, DNA-by not jumping on every new release.
If the creature isn’t an end-of-the-line hybrid, you save DNA that could be critical later on.
Now, don’t get me wrong-some creatures are so dominant that they’re must-haves the moment you unlock them. If you’ve done your homework and feel confident, go ahead and invest. But for most cases, it’s good practice to pause, keep grinding, and wait until:
The creature is at a high enough level,
You have the boosts ready, and
You can actually make it earn its spot on your team.
Patience pays off-especially in the long run.
🧭PLAN YOUR PATH (Ludia’s Made It Easier Than Ever)
One of the biggest changes in Jurassic World Alive over the years is how DNA is distributed-and lately, Ludia has actually given us a clear roadmap for how to acquire it. That makes planning your path toward specific creatures easier than ever before.
With so many sources of DNA now available, it’s easier to decide which creatures to pursue based on:
Your current resources,
Your playstyle,
And how much time you can realistically commit each day.
While weekly events can offer great opportunities, they aren’t reliable for long-term planning since we don’t know what they’ll include until that week. But other sources-like Alliance Championships, Seasonal Rewards, and Daily Missions-are more consistent and can help you plan months in advance.
If you’re an active player, the amount of DNA you can collect daily is honestly impressive. Between:
Hunting
Daily Raids
Strike Towers
Isla Events
Alliance Donations
Daily Battle Incubator
Battle Incubators
You’ve got a long list of ways to gather DNA-and that allows you to choose how you want to play, and which path you want to follow.
If you're serious about climbing the ranks, you should be taking advantage of all of these. Every bit of DNA adds up, and over time that daily effort can put you way ahead of the competition.
That said... let’s be real-Raids are one area still falling short. Rare and Epic DNA from raids is way too low compared to the effort required. If there’s one area Ludia should really improve, it's this one.
💥THE ARENA GRIND IS REAL...BUT TOTALLY WORTH IT
Let’s be honest: the arena grind can feel brutal at times. But guess what? Don’t stress about losing. With the rewards we’ve been getting since Update 3.12, battling is absolutely worth the effort. So, drop the anxiety, queue up, and most importantly-have fun!
Why is battling so important right now? Because:
Battle Incubators are one of the best ways to earn exclusive DNA
Daily Battle Incubators (DBIs) give you coins, DNA, and boosts
It’s the only unrestricted way to consistently grind the most precious resource in JWA-Coins
The more you battle, the better you get. Daily arena play gets you in tune with the rhythm of the current meta, helps you recognize patterns, and sharpens your instincts. It’s also one of the best ways to identify what your team is missing-and be ready for when that next big creature drops.
Plus, those boosts you earn? They add up quickly if you stay consistent. Completing your DBI and keeping those battle incubators going every day sets you up for long-term success-whether you're prepping for an upgrade or scouting for your next key team addition.
We’ll go deeper into the coin grind next-but for now, just remember: every arena battle is a step forward, even if it ends in a loss.
🪙 COINS! I NEED THAT! GIVE ME MORE!!
Coins are the single most important resource in all of JWA. You need them for everything-leveling creatures, fusing DNA, applying boosts-you name it. And yet... they’re also one of the hardest resources to consistently have enough of.
That’s why we talked about battling earlier with so much importance. Daily battles help keep your coin flow moving-even if it’s not always enough (and let’s be honest, it rarely is 😅). Still, it’s an extra source of coins that a lot of players skip out on. And skipping it might actually be holding them back from progressing.
The more coins you earn, the more you can invest in your team. The more you invest in your team, the more wins you stack. The higher you climb, the better the rewards get. It’s the little things like this that start to build momentum.
Want more coin tips? Here’s your checklist:
✅ Max your supply drops every day
✅ Do every strike event you can
✅ Donate in your alliance—but be smart about it
Donations can actually be a sneaky-good way to stack coins. Some alliances even coordinate donation days where everyone requests the same rarity or type of creature-so the whole alliance gets a coin boost. It’s a smart strategy, but it should be mutual, not forced.
And we'll also say this again just like up above when using this resource: Don’t force it!
Being smart about when and what you level will save you a ton of coins in the long run. Don’t rush into upgrades unless they’ll make an immediate impact. That way, when you're truly ready-boosts in hand, DNA stocked-you can unleash your next big threat without being broke.
🎯WEEKLY EVENTS - ALWAYS DART THE EXCLUSIVE (Mostly)
When planning for the weekly events, there’s one rule we almost always follow: Always dart the exclusive!
But of course, there are exceptions to every rule-and sometimes, you’re faced with multiple exclusives to choose from. So how do you decide? Here are a few things to keep in mind:
How hard is the creature to get?
Not all exclusives are created equal. Some are locked behind end-game arenas or events, while others are just ingredient-locked with one hard-to-get component.
So while technically both are “exclusive,” one may be significantly more difficult to obtain for your current level.
Which exclusive do you need most right now?
If you’re close to finishing that last ingredient for a crucial Apex or Unique hybrid, then go for it. Prioritize progress over just darting what looks good on paper.
When in doubt, go for the newest exclusive
Newer exclusives are often a major focus for Ludia. That usually means they’ll play a big role in upcoming hybrids, events, or even balance shifts. Getting in early on one of these creatures can give you a serious edge when their hybrids start showing up in the meta.
At the end of the day, use your best judgment based on your situation. The right pick for you might not be the same as someone in a different arena or with a different team build.
💡LONG TERM THINKING- DART EVERYTHING, PLAN SMART
Even if you follow every step we've laid out-smart planning, saving resources, cautious investing-there’s still a little luck involved. Some creatures just age better than others. Sometimes you invest in something carefully, and the meta shifts away from it. That’s part of the game.
But being cautious and planning ahead massively increases your chances of success. You’ll avoid a lot of common pitfalls and be better prepared for whatever direction the game goes.
One of the biggest tips we can give—and this applies to every player at every level-is simple:
👉 Dart everything.
Seriously. This is one of the best habits you can develop. Darting every creature you come across, even ones you don’t currently need, will set you up for long-term success. Creature rotations are real-and that creature that’s everywhere today? It might disappear tomorrow. And when it comes back years later as part of an amazing new Apex hybrid, you’ll be kicking yourself for skipping it back in the day.
Unless you’re hunting something specific, a good rule of thumb is to follow the rarity pecking order:
Legendary/Unique (always top priority if available)
Epic
Rare
Common
Over time, this adds up to an incredible vault of DNA that gives you flexibility, options, and a huge advantage when new creatures or hybrids drop.
💭FINAL THOUGHTS
Progress in JWA isn’t just about having the strongest creatures-it’s about playing smart. Plan ahead, manage your resources, battle consistently, and stay informed. Futureproof yourself with these strategies, to ensure you’ll climb higher-and stay there.
Stay tuned for more in this series-we’ll be diving into:
Boost distribution
Catalyst Fusions
Team Building Tips
And more advanced arena tips!
Until then-keep grinding, dart smart, and have fun out there!
Have always played the game using my favourite creatures, and it feels so good to be able to hit 5.2k trophies with them in my team (especially with my level 25 poukandactylus, I'm so proud to be able to use such an off-meta creature to beat big threats like the rexes and concatosaurus.)
The thing about darting is so real; when I was fusing indochicyon, I ran out of rinchenia, and I immediately regret not darting it earlier on. It took me a month to unlock it when it could have been faster if I just darted it and also remembered to fight the rinchicyon raids.
Wow, this article is excellent. I’ve been stuck in Aviary, & I hope this will be helpful. Thanks for sharing all this.
👍 Great tips. Especially the team building advice. Thank you very much idgt!
Definitely need more coins to accomplish everything I want, but this is 100% spot on.
Also make sure you have fun. Dominating in the arena with both Indoms is fun because what's better than one Indominus Rex? TWO!
